Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)

Contains in-force administrative rules and regulations issued by executive branch and independent agencies; organized by topic.

Free Sources

FDsys
A searchable version of the CFR from the US Government Printing Office. Includes editions from 2000.

Cornell's Legal Information Institute
A searchable version of the current edition of the CFR.

Electronic CFR
An updated version of the current edition of the CFR, with recently adopted regulations from the Federal Register integrated into the Code.

Library of Congress / HeinOnline
Historical series, from 1938-95. Browse by year; each year includes an index volume.

Federal Register (Fed. Reg.)

Published weekdays, the Federal Register publishes proposed and adopted rules, notices, and executive orders. Update the Code of Federal Regulations.

A site that provides current information about proposed regulations in the Federal Register and online forms for submitting comments.
