America's Story from America's Library, http://www.americaslibrary.gov This new site from the Library of Congress was made public today. Drawing on the vast resources of the Library, the website offers an entertaining and educational collection of American facts, people, and culture. Photographs, manuscripts, and streaming audio and video contribute to enliven this display of American history. The "Meet Amazing Americans" section features Thomas Jefferson and the "most important thing he ever wrote," the Declaration of Independence; Abraham Lincoln and the contents of his pockets on the night he was shot; and Harriet Tubman and her role in the Underground Railroad. "Jump Back in Time" lets you select a day in history, maybe your birthday, to learn about notable events. "Join America at Play" currently features information on baseball and quiltmaking. Visit the site often to view the changing features. This is a great site for kids of all ages. |
