This class focuses on the legal framework in the U.S. controlling allocation and use of coastal and marine resources. Topics include coastal zone management, fisheries management, protection of marine mammals and endangered species, marine pollution, offshore oil and gas development, and marine transportation.

This research guide follows the organization of topics in Coastal and Ocean Law: Cases and Materials. 3d ed. St. Paul, MN: West Group, 1999. (American Casebook Series). The authors have a website, http://library.law.unc.edu/ocean-coastal/, containing the text of selected federal laws.
