The Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) is a not-for-profit publication that
has been prepared on a weekly basis by law librarians and staff of the Marian Gould
Gallagher Law Library since 1948. CILP provides timely topical access to approximately 475
law school reviews and other selected legal journals under 100 subject headings. In
addition, CILP provides full tables of contents of all journals indexed. CILP is available
4-6 weeks before commercial legal periodicals indexes such as the Index to Legal
Periodicals and the Legal Resource Index. CILP strives to provide researchers
with the fastest, most cost-effective current awareness tool available.
Many current subscribers receive an electronic version of CILP. UW users have access to recent issues through the Internet.

SmartCILP is a fee-based service that provides personalized indexing delivered via
electronic mail. Electronic subscribers continue to get the full text of CILP each week.
After setting up a SmartCILP profile, subscribers receive an additional e-mail message
each week that focuses only on the subject headings and journals they select. This e-mail
message is clearly marked as "SmartCILP" to allow easy identification and review
of results. SmartCILP profiles can be changed each week, allowing subscribers to tailor
