Penny Hazelton: Biography
Professor Hazelton brings substantial experience in law librarianship to
her position as Associate Dean for Library and Computing Services at the University of Washington
School of Law. She served as Associate Law Librarian, then Law Librarian and
Associate Professor for five years at the University of Maine School of Law. From 1981 until
coming to the University of Washington in 1985, Hazelton served as Assistant
Librarian for Research Services and Acting Director at the Library of the Supreme Court of
the United States in Washington, D.C. Associate Dean Hazelton manages the
Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library and the Computing Services Department of
the Law School. In addition to her administrative duties, she teaches legal research, has taught Indian law,
and teaches in the University of Washington Information School. She serves
as the director of the Law Librarianship Program, a program leading to an
MLIS for lawyers interested in careers in law librarianship. She has been admitted to the Washington State Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court
Bar, and served as President of the American Association of Law Libraries in 1991. She
writes in the fields of law librarianship and legal research. She has been the
general editor of Specialized Legal Research (Aspen) since 2001 and wrote the
chapter on banking law research that was last revised in 2001.
