(Adobe PDF files) - Library Classification (Call Number) System at Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library (MGGLL)
- Materials are for the most part shelved by subject, not language. Keep in mind that due to differences in subject emphasis and other factors, materials relevant to your research topic may be shelved in different areas of the library. Exceptions to the rule of shelving by subject are special reference sections such as East Asian Law Reference (EALR) on L2, and the Reference Area (REF) on L1, in which special reference materials or highly used materials on various topics are placed together for convenience.
- KNX is the classification for Japanese Law. Materials primarily on Japanese law are all in this classification, located on L2 in the Classified Stacks (CLAS), and in East Asian Law Reference (EALR).
- Some materials in Japanese or dealing with Japan may be found on L1 as well. For example, DS (Asian Studies), HD (Business), JS (Local Government), JQ (Political institutions and public administration (Asia, Africa, Australia, Pacific Area, etc.)), JZ (International Relations), and K (Comparative Law).
- For more information on Foreign Law classification, see: http://lib.law.washington.edu/ref/forcall.htm
- Marian, the Law Library Catalog at the Gallagher Law Library (see: http://marian.law.washington.edu/) has bibliographic records (author, title, subject, publication information, etc.) for books and serials. Does NOT contain records for periodical articles or cases.
