Departments

The Gallagher Law Library is organized into the following departments:

Administration

Consists of the Library Director and administrative staff responsible for

The Library Director, Penny Hazelton, also directs the Law Librarianship program in conjunction with the UW School of Library and Information Science (i School).

Circulation

Consists of the Assistant Librarian for Access Services and staff responsible for

Collection Development

Librarians who select books, periodicals, and other electronic and library materials.

Documents

The Documents Librarian is responsible for the Law Library's participation in the FederalDepository Library Program and selection of Washington State documents and publications from international and nongovernmental organizations.

East Asian Law

Consists of the Assistant Librarian for East Asian Law and the Japanese Legal Materials Specialist who are responsible for selecting materials and providing reference services to support the School of Law's Asian Law Program, concentrating on Chinese, Korean, and Japanese legal materials.

Reference

Consists of the Assistant Librarian for Reference Services, reference librarians, and law librarianship interns who:

  • answer questions about legal materials and research techniques
  • instruct UW School of Law students, faculty, and staff and other users in legal research tools and methods
  • write research guides
  • and maintain the Law Library's website.

Technical Services

Consists of the Assistant Librarian for Bibliographic Services and staff responsible for:

  • maintaining MARIAN, the Law Library online catalog
  • processing new library material
  • and filing updates in looseleaf services.
