On Sept. 28, 2009, a new catalog search box appeared on the Gallagher Law
Library homepage. This page describes the new catalog option, called UW Law
WorldCat.
UW Law WorldCat is a great tool to use when your research needs cannot be met
with the material in the Gallagher Law Library. Give it a try!
What Library Collections Does UW Law WorldCat Include?
Materials located at:
- UW Gallagher Law Library
- UW Libraries
- Summit (a consortium of 30+ academic libraries in Washington and
Oregon)
- Libraries worldwide
Searchers can select the category that best suits their needs by using
the pull-down menu.
What Types of Library Material Does UW Law WorldCat Include?
Libraries contain more than books (although books continue to be major
resources offered by libraries).
- Books, journals, government publications, microfiche, and media
formats (CD’s, DVD’s, etc.)
- Electronic resources to which the UW Law Library provides access (BNA,
CCH, HeinOnline, LegalTrac, LexisNexis Academic, etc.)
- Articles from several collections, including:
- NLM Medline (medicine and health)
- ERIC (education)
- GPO (U.S. government publications)
- ArticleFirst (16,000+ sources from 1990 to date)
- British Library serials (articles from a wide range of international
journals in all subjects)

What Library Information & Material Are Not
Included in UW Law WorldCat?
- Materials that are on order or in the process of being added to the
collection
- Individual volume information for large serial publications
- Local notes and serial holdings information
- Articles that are included in sources such as HeinOnline, LexisNexis,
Westlaw (etc.) UNLESS they are also included in ArticleFirst, British
Library serials, ERIC, GPO, or NLM

What Advantages Does UW Law WorldCat Offer?
- It is easy to request materials from local and regional sources (UW
collections, Summit) plus link to interlibrary loan to request items from
other libraries
- Users can limit searches by format, date, author, language, or
subject
- Users can limit searches to specific library groups (for example,
Summit only)
- Abstracts, tables of contents, book jackets, and Google Books previews
are available
- User-contributed reviews, ratings, and related subject lists are also
available
- Users can choose the language of the search page: Chinese, Dutch,
English, French, German, or Spanish
- Citation information for a wide variety of style manuals along with
record export options to RefWorks and EndNote make it easy for users to
capture information for bibliographies and footnotes
