News About the Law Library's Move, Summer 2003

Updated Sept. 24, 2003.

The Gallagher Law Library will reopen on Monday, Sept. 29, at 8am.

The Gallagher Law Library has moved from Condon Hall to Gates Hall. During our closure, limited services will be available. Please check this webpage for updates.

We anticipate reopening in late September 2003, in time for the new academic year.

You may view pictures taken during the move in the Photo Gallery for pictures. Other photographs of the building are available at the Law School's website, http://www.law.washington.edu/NewBuilding/

So that patrons can continue their research over the summer, the Library has extended due dates from the end of spring quarter through the summer. UW Law School faculty, students, and staff--along with UW faculty and staff--will have the due dates of all borrowed materials extended to December 18th. All UW non-law students and public patrons will have due dates on borrowed library materials extended to September 29th.

During this time, Cascade will be expanding to include some private colleges in Washington and public and private colleges in Oregon. The new system--to be called Summit, http://cascade.lib.washington.edu/, will include material from the Gallagher Law Library when the Library reopens in late September. At that time UW  law School faculty, students, and staff will be able to borrow through Summit.

During the closure, we will offer the following services:

UW Law School Faculty and Law Students

  • E-mail reference and circulation.
  • Phone reference 10-4 weekdays during most of the summer. Call 206-543-6794.
  • Ability to borrow books via Interlibrary Loan.
  • Ability to borrow books from libraries participating in the Summit union catalog.
  • Paging of materials from the collection during the closure when possible.
  • Extended due dates to December 18, 2003.
  • Delivery of LexisNexis and Westlaw printouts, books retrieved from the Library, and books borrowed through Summit and Interlibrary Loan and paged. Law students may pick up materials from Sarah Walsh's office (Room 265).

UW Users from Other Colleges and Departments, Practicing Attorneys, and the Public

  • Phone reference 10-4 weekdays during most of the summer. Call 206-543-6794.
  • Copy & Send, a fee-based service providing copies of cases, law review articles, and other legal materials for which the requester has a citation.
  • Extended due dates to September 29, 2003 (December 18th for UW faculty and staff outside the Law School).

These plans are subject to change.
